An Evolution in Implant Attitudes

The last 15 or 20 years have brought us amazing changes in healthcare and technology as well as an awakening of environmental consciousness.   As a nation, we are more aware of what we put into our bodies than ever before – we eat organic food, avoid pesticides, and scrutinize labels.  It is no wonder then that we are increasingly concerned about the safety of the health care we use.
Women seeking breast augmentation are just as much a part of these trends as the rest of us.  They are well informed about the risks and benefits of breast implants and, increasingly, have a list of questions as they walk in the plastic surgeon’s door.

Women concerned about safety have become more engaged in the implant choices once left to their doctors. This may be the reason that saline-filled implants were used in over 60% of the 399,400 breast augmentation procedures performed in the United States in 2007, according to statistics compiled by The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
